The Preserve's deep gullies sink into the Sycamore River. Such seasonal drainages together with a wide range of moorings, located in the preserve, provide a limited wetland habitat for garter snakes. Drainage consists of kinglet ruby crowns, castanut piglets (castania), vireos, black birds with red wings and big blue herons. They promote also goats, rabbits, deer and bird species. Among the raptors in the preserve were northern harrier, the Coop hawk and the white-tailed kite. In these warm summer days, the bocce ball courts were shaded.
